RE:                 Progress Report #1

Welcome to the 2004 Walk to Cure Diabetes!  This is the first of the weekly progress reports you will receive.  The purpose of these reports is to keep you informed and motivated over the next 8 weeks.  In addition, we’ll share with you exciting news and updates from Walk Teams throughout the area.

Thank you for serving as a Team Captain for the 2004 Walk To Cure Diabetes. We have officially kicked off this year’s walk and we are on our way toward the $305,000 branch goal.

As Co-Corporate Recruitment Chair for the walk, we have set an aggressive goal of $30,000 for my team, The Pizza Oven.  I challenged each of my team members to set their own personal fundraising goal of at least $100.  I believe this is a very attainable goal by asking ten people for $10.

In addition, our Family Team Chair, Donna Treubig, tells me that many of our families are setting goals for themselves.  Families that are conducting a Letter Writing Campaign (LWC) can expect to raise $1,000.  At least that’s what the average letter brings in.

Give your team something to strive for by setting goals for the number of Walkers and the amount they will raise.  Danielle Robertson from the JDRF staff or a member of our Family Team Committee will be contacting you on my behalf to discuss your team’s goal and to help you develop a strategy to meet that goal.

Also, don’t forget to register for the Walk on-line at www.jdrf.org.  Here you will be able to set up your own personal fundraising web page, send group e-mails and collect donations on line.  In addition, Team Captains will be able to check the status of their team and team members.

Again, thank you for leading the 2004 Walk To Cure Diabetes. I look forward to getting to know you in the weeks ahead as we join together to cure diabetes.

The team has set a goal to raise $30,000 through walker dollars, vendor letters, and a golf outing.  The Pizza Oven Charity Classic will be held on Sunday, August 22nd at Skyland Pines Golf Club.  Tickets are $100 and include golf, bocci, meals, refreshments, and raffle.  If you are interested in receiving more information call (330) 454-5131 or Danielle Robertson at (216) 524-6000. Akron Aeros

Join the JDRF night at Canal Park!  On Monday, August 30th, JDRF and the Akron Aeros will present “JDRF Appreciation Night”.  A member of the JDRF family will throw out the first pitch, have tables set up with walk materials and much, much more!  Tickets are $6 with $4 going to JDRF, and must be purchased through the JDRF office by calling (216) 524-6000 or (888) 718-3061.  The Aeros will take on the Bowie Baysox at 7:05 pm.  Join us for a great night of baseball!

Stephanie’s Steamers

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

Let’s hear it for Stephanie’s Steamers who are committed to raising $6,500 this year through their Family Team effort in honor of Stephanie.  Stephanie was diagnosed with juvenile (type 1) diabetes in August 2000.  The team is raising money by sending a letter to family and friends and through a ride by their Reverend.  Reverend Ray’s 2004 Bike Trip Across America was a 3,500 miles bicycle journey that started in San Diego, CA and ended in St. Augustine, FL.  Donations from the ride were made to Stephanie’s Steamers for the 2004 Walk to Cure Diabetes and together they raised $4,500. Thanks to Donna and Stephanie for all their hard work!  Donna Treubig is also doing a fabulous job serving as this year’s Family Team Chair.
