The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation presented the 2003 Rick Stidd Volunteer of the Year Award to Western Reserve Academy employee Donna Treubig and her daughter 10-year-old East Woods student Stephanie. This award is presented in memory of Rick Stidd who was one of the founders of the Akron/Canton Branch of JDRF and was a committed and dedicated diabetic volunteer. JDRF selects one or two volunteers each year who have shown the same dedication and commitment to raising awareness about diabetes and research funding for a cure for juvenile diabetes. Donna is the Legislative Chair on JDRF’s executive board, is on several sub-committees, coordinates volunteer activities and fundraisers and volunteers in the evenings at the JDRF office. Stephanie was appointed Youth Ambassador this year giving over 50 presentations about life with juvenile diabetes to large and small corporations and civic organizations, as well as radio and television interviews. Stephanie also maintains a web site, mentors other diabetic children and volunteers in the JDRF office. “Team Stephanie” raised over $5500 and included 30 walkers at the Walk to Cure Diabetes held at the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.
